Brightening the horizons of  the less fortunate communities .

In the spirit of Sustainable Tourism for Development in 2017, We are delighted to announce a new partnership between Hemingways Holdings and One Horizon.

One Horizon is a humanitarian organisation which operates over 20 rescue and rehabilitation centers in and around Nairobi. They do fantastic work in many deprived communities looking after orphaned and abandoned children and they feed over 2,000 of these children on a daily basis. In addition they support small business initiatives for women aiming to provide them an income with which to support themselves.

Whenever possible we facilitate a visit to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust for our clients. This unique charity was funded in 1977 Dr. Dame Daphne Sheldrick D.B.E, in honour of the memory of her late husband, famous naturalist and founding Warden of Tsavo East National Park, David Sheldrick MBE. Most famous for its work on caring for and rehabilitating orphan elephants and rhino, the headquarters of the trust are located on the edge of Nairobi National Park. To date the Trust has successfully hand-raised over 150 infant elephants. More importantly, every one of these orphans can look forward to a quality of life in wild terms, living free in Tsavo East National Park protected by their new extended orphaned family and friends amongst the wild herds.

By paying a minimum of US $50 per annum, you can ‘adopt’ a baby elephant and enjoy an exclusive visit to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Headquarters. Here you will be able to watch the orphaned elephants walk with their keepers, play and enjoy their bottled milk. The experience of watching these baby elephants is beyond description and is thoroughly recommended.

Vehicle Donation to Watamu Marine Assosiation (WMA).

In October this year we once again extended our commitment to helping in harmonizing the fine balance between a thriving tourist attraction, community and the protection of a very delicate coastal habitat in Watamu –Kenya.

The support came in the donation of a vehicle to enable the organization, Watamu Marine Association (WMA) to tackle the daily conservation needs of this world renowned Marine Park; for example dolphin and coral reef conservation work. WMA is a non profit making organization that survives on member support and donations..

“Dear members and supporters

WMA has been in need of a vehicle for some time now to help committee members attend meetings along the coast and for Association activities and events. We recently put out a call for help and have just received fantastic support from Hemingways.

They have provided WMA with a vehicle to use with a monthly fuel allowance and free maintenance and servicing. This means vehicle and fuel expenses can now be used for community support projects

On behalf of WMA:
THANK YOU HEMINGWAYS’’
Steve Trott – Chairman Watamu Marine Association – October 2011.
