DAY 1 / NAIROBI

On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport you will be met and assisted with immigration and customs formalities before being transferred to Fairmont The Norfolk Hotel for overnight.

Fairmont The Norfolk Hotel has played a leading role in Kenya’s colorful history, and continues to be the best-known luxury hotel in Nairobi, Kenya. The town and later the modern city of Nairobi grew up around Fairmont The Norfolk hotel, which still has its own private tropical gardens. The landmark historic hotel in Nairobi is still the traditional starting point for African safaris and the Lord Delamere Terrace is modern Nairobi’s popular meeting place, where drinks and light meals are served continuously from morning till late evening. Not to mention the elegant Cin Cin Wine bar, showcasing an admirable range of International wines and spirits; and the ultra modern Tatu Restaurant, which is a thrilling contrast against the Victorian themed property.

DAY 2 / NAIROBI – KIGALI – KININGI

Transfer to Nairobi Airport today for your flight to Kigali, Rwanda. Arrive at Kigali International Airport where you will be met outside the arrivals section and transferred into town.  After a safari briefing, drive through the Rwandan countryside to Kiningi at the foothills of the Virunga volcanoes.

You will arrive at Sabyinyo silverback Lodge in the late afternoon. The Lodge is a comfortable 2 hour’s drive from Kigali.

The lodge situated in the foothills of the mighty Virunga, the chain of 15,000 ft volcanoes stretching through Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.  The Lodge is some 3 kilometers from the main entrance to the Parc National des Volcans in Northwest Rwanda near the border with Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The lush slopes of the volcanoes provide an approximately dramatic natural setting for what is perhaps the most poignant and thrilling wildlife experience to be had anywhere.  Roughly half of the world’s wild population of mountain gorillas is resident on the Rwandan slopes of the Virungas.  Gorilla trekking is not the only activity on offer. Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge provides the perfect base from which to explore this fascinating corner of Africa.  Visits to the bustling community and conservation projects are designed for you to take maximum advantage of this unique area, its wildlife and its culture.

 DAY 3 / KININGI

After an early breakfast, drive to the Volcanoes National Park Headquarters where you will be allocated a gorilla tracking group.

Gorilla treks take place in the morning and depart from the Park Headquarters at around 07:30am. Prior to departure you are given a briefing by park staff, assigned a gorilla family to visit and rangers to guide you.

The treks take place on the slopes of the Virunga Volcanoes and clients should be in good physical condition as some of the trek can be physically demanding. The treks normally start in the cultivated land on the base of the volcanoes and then you are guided up into the beautiful dense misty forests. The trek normally lasts between 2 and 5 hours depending on the location of the gorilla family and a maximum of eight visitors is allowed per gorilla family. Once you reach the gorillas you are permitted to stay for one hour to view them.

After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch, and in the afternoon, visit an ex poacher’s camp and see how such people operated in the wild.  You will also be able to interact with the ex poachers.  Return to Sabyinyo Lodge in the evening for cocktails and dinner.

 DAY 4 / KININGI – KIGALI – NAIROBI

Your second day spent tracking the gorillas. This time, you will be allocated a different group and spend as much time as possible searching for them first and then spend an allocated hour with the group.  Once again, this will require an early morning start but the satisfaction of time spent with a gorilla family cannot be equated to time or money!

Return to Sabyinyo Lodge for lunch and after, drive back to Kigali where accommodation is reserved at the Kigali Serena Hotel.  Enjoy dinner tonight at a Rwandese Restaurant.
